Eyes For Africa Art
Exhibition @ Mernda Bakery,
Julie, Pete and Sue
would like to thank everyone for their amazing support for this art show. It
was great to see so many people visit Mernda Bakery to view the Exhibition,
and to all those who either bought art work or made a donation, thank you so
much for caring. The money raised was in excess of $7500, which amounts to
over 150 ‘eye units’. The hope of the exhibition was to raise enough money
to purchase a portable slit lamp - essential equipment for assessment of an
eye before surgery. Portability makes assessment much easier and more
readily available in the remote areas of Ethiopia. The amount more than
covers the cost of this equipment - it also covers many ‘eyes’ as well.
All the money raised
goes to the expenses of performing the surgery itself, as the teams
travelling to Ethiopia are all volunteers paying their own expenses. This
means a considerable amount to the poor of the rural areas of that
impoverished country. Julie and her next team leave after Xmas for a five
week tour to Harar and Mizan Teferi, so your support will be put to very
good use in the very near future.
We should also like to
thank the Staff of The Town Crier for their part in sponsorship, and to the
reporters of the Whittlesea Review and the Whittlesea Leader for their
coverage of the event. Also to Councilor Rex Griffin, Mayor of Whittlesea
for his support, and for opening the Exhibition.
